Setagaya Studio ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Spider Identifier: AI Scanner mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.
We do not collect personal information. The App does not require an account, login, or registration. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or any other personally identifiable information.
Photos you provide. When you take a photo with your camera or select one from your photo library to identify a spider, that image is sent to a third-party artificial intelligence service via our secure server solely to perform the identification. Images are compressed before transmission. We do not store, log, or retain your photos on our servers — they are processed in real time and discarded.
On-device data. Identification history (including species details, venom information, and confidence levels), saved photos, scan statistics, and your preferences are stored locally on your device. This data is never transmitted to any server. You can delete individual records, clear your entire history, or remove all data by deleting the App.
Purchase data. If you subscribe to Spider Identifier Pro, a third-party subscription management service processes your in-app purchase. This service may collect anonymous device identifiers and purchase receipts to manage your subscription and restore purchases across devices. We do not have access to your Apple ID, payment method, or billing details.
Camera and photo library access. The App requests permission to access your device camera and photo library solely for the purpose of capturing or selecting images for spider identification. These permissions are required for core functionality and are never used for any other purpose.
No advertising or location tracking. The App does not display advertisements and does not collect your device location data. We may use anonymous, aggregated usage data to improve the App experience.
The App relies on the following categories of third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
AI identification service — processes the photos you provide to identify spider species. Your images are sent securely via HTTPS and are not stored by us. The AI service provider may process images in accordance with its own privacy policy.
Cloud infrastructure — our secure server infrastructure relays your identification requests to the AI service. All communication is encrypted in transit.
Subscription management — a third-party service manages in-app subscriptions and purchase validation on our behalf.
Apple — processes payments through your Apple ID account. Apple's privacy policy is available at apple.com/legal/privacy.

Because we do not collect personal data on our servers, there is nothing for us to retain. Photos sent for identification are processed in real time and are not stored. On-device data — including your identification history (up to 100 records) and saved photos — remains on your device until you delete individual records, clear your history within the App, or delete the App entirely.
Spider Identifier: AI Scanner is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal data through the App, please contact us at hello@setagaya.studio and we will take steps to delete it.
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with applicable data protection laws, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, as well as the right to restrict or object to its processing.
Because Spider Identifier does not collect or store personal data on our servers, these rights are effectively satisfied by default. You can delete your on-device identification history at any time within the App. If you have questions or wish to exercise any rights, contact us at hello@setagaya.studio.
We use industry-standard practices to protect data in transit, including HTTPS encryption for all communications between the App and our servers. Images are compressed and transmitted securely, then discarded after processing. Since no personal data is stored on our servers, there is minimal risk of a data breach on our end. On-device data is protected by your device's built-in security features.
Spider identifications provided by the App are generated by artificial intelligence and may be inaccurate. The App is not a medical device and should not be relied upon for medical decisions. Always consult a medical professional for suspected spider bites. In case of emergency, contact Poison Control at 1-800-222-1222 or call your local emergency services.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
